Vijayamma stated that Sharmila was not part of the family business but dedicated herself to politics selflessly under Jagan Reddy guidance.

Hyderabad: Amid the ongoing dispute between YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister Congress leader YS Sharmila over a multi-crore inheritance their mother YS Vijayamma has penned an open letter expressing her support for Sharmila stating that it is her duty to speak up for the unfairly treated child.

In response the YSR Congress Party issued a statement declaring that the mother has not been neutral. The party led by Jagan Reddy noted that Vijayamma had supported Sharmila and the Congress both before and after the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. Earlier this year the YSRCP faced a significant defeat resulting in Jagan Reddy losing power to his arch-rival TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu. The YSRCP pointed out that YS Sharmila aligned herself with the party that had previously incarcerated Jagan Reddy.

Vijayamma wrote that Sharmila was not involved in the family business but dedicated herself to politics at Jagan Reddy behest. Jagan rise to power owes much to Sharmila efforts. As a mother i view all my children equally. It pains me to witness injustice being done to one of them. It is my responsibility to advocate for the unfairly treated child Vijayamma stated. She expressed that it is deeply painful for her to witness the current turmoil. My late husband, Rajasekhara Reddy, our children and I once had a happy family. I cannot understand why we are facing such challenges. Despite my attempts to intervene unfortunate events continue to unfold before my eyes she added.

Vijayamma criticized the unfounded claims being circulated about her family asserting that this must come to an end. It’s not beneficial for my children or for the state. I hesitated to address this but the situation requires it. I urge those who have misrepresented our family to stop she stated.

Blood is thicker than water. My children can speak for themselves. I have faith in God who will provide solutions to their challenges she added.

Vijayamma dismissed allegations that YSR distributed his assets among his children while he was alive explaining YSR transferred certain assets to my younger daughter Sharmila and some to my son Jagan during his lifetime. That not dividing assets it simply allocating them.

YS Rajasekhara Reddy the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh and a well-respected Congress leader tragically died in a helicopter crash in 2009.

YSR wished for his children to receive equal shares and that is the truth. Jagan worked hard to grow our assets but all assets belong to the family Vijayamma asserted.

After YSR untimely death in 2009 Jagan and Sharmila lived together until 2019. Jagan provided Sharmila with 200 crores from his share as part of their agreement. According to the MoU Jagan would receive 60% while Sharmila would get 40%. However prior to the MoU they shared equal dividends since Sharmila had an equal share she explained.

Vijayamma noted that Jagan Reddy proposed the division of assets after becoming Chief Minister in 2019 citing concerns about their grown children potentially having conflicts.

Later in Vijayawada in my presence they agreed to divide the assets stating this is Jagan and this is Sharmila. The MoU established in 2019 is the same one written and signed by Jagan himself. Since Sharmila had rights Jagan gave her 200 crores as dividends. The MoU was official she elaborated.

The properties specified in the MoU to be given to Sharmila are not gifts from Jagan but rather his responsibility. With no attachments Jagan pledged and signed to give Sharmila 100% of the Saraswathi shares mentioned in the MoU and all of the Yelahanka property not mentioned in the MoU immediately Vijayamma stated.

Sharmila was also treated unfairly regarding the unattached properties. Sharmila share included Bharati Cements, Sakshi Media and YSR house which should be assigned following the cases she continued. Vijayamma felt compelled to speak out to clarify the truth amid the falsehoods propagated by many. The reality is this they are still siblings. This is their issue they will resolve it she wrote.

If Rajasekhara Reddy were alive this asset dispute would not have arisen and there would be no such controversy. I wouldn’t have needed to speak out if it weren’t for the ongoing chaos. I believe only my words can bring an end to this. I urge you all as my children to refrain from making irresponsible statements Vijayamma implored.

The YSR Congress Party responded to Vijayamma letter asserting that Jagan Reddy never sought to reclaim the assets. YS Jagan has shared his assets with his sister Sharmila out of goodwill. She is not a director in any of Jagan businesses. Jagan has treated Sharmila with kindness as any brother would. The late CM Rajasekhara Reddy had already allocated assets to Sharmila and Jagan. Jagan never demanded those assets back he only issued a notice regarding the exchange of attached properties in ED cases without his knowledge YSRCP state secretary SV Satish Reddy said in a statement.

The Siblings Letter Exchange

The siblings have exchanged harsh letters amid the dispute accusing each other of deceitful and deeply hurtful actions that tarnish their father memory.

Jagan Reddy previously wrote to the National Company Law Tribunal flagging the illegal transfer of shares in Saraswati Power. He stated that the shares were given to me in trust by a gift deed and that he had gifted them to their mother YS Vijayalakshmi with the understanding that the transfer would occur post court clearance (and) with execution of further appropriate documentation

However he claimed that these shares had been deceitfully transferred by his sister to herself creating potential legal complications for him. He asserted that these shares would now revert to me as the original and continuing owner and beneficiary of the interest Jagan Reddy also declared the MoU he signed in 2019 as void stating that it expressed his intention to effect transfer of certain properties to you out of my love and affection for you as my sibling at a point in time in future.

In response Sharmila pointed out their father unambiguous instruction that all properties acquired with family resources during his lifetime should be divided equally among his four grandchildren.

She rejected Jagan Reddy attempt to annul the MoU asserting that it holds no legal authority. You have done what our dear father would never have imagined filed cases against his dear wife (our mother) and daughter (myself) to deprive his family of their legitimate share she wrote.

Regarding the contentious issue of the Saraswati Power shares Sharmila claimed that the intention was to transfer them upon signing the MoU but you (Jagan Reddy) failed to fulfil this promise for several years

The company law tribunal is scheduled to hear the matter on November 8.

This inheritance dispute comes after the siblings parted ways politically. YS Sharmila who campaigned extensively for her brother until the 2019 Assembly polls broke away in 2021 to establish her YSR Telangana party which merged with the Congress ahead of the general election this year. The Congress appointed YS Sharmila as the party Andhra Pradesh chief positioning her as her brother rival.
