The 82nd edition of the Golden Globe Awards officially kicked off the Hollywood awards season on January 5 2025 held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles USA.
Pop icons and fan favorites Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande both earned nominations in the category of Best Performance by Female Actress in Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. Selena was nominated for her portrayal of Emilia Perez role that has garnered considerable buzz this awards season while Ariana Grande was nominated for her portrayal of Glinda in Wicked. However both actresses went home without the trophy.
The award for Best Supporting Female Actor went to Zoe Saldana for her performance in Emilia Perez. In her acceptance speech Zoe paid tribute to the strength, complexity and undeniable talent of her co stars Selena Gomez and Karla Sofia Gascon as well as director Jacques Audiard.
Though Selena and Ariana didn’t take home the award their presence at the event was still the center of attention for other reasons. Selena made memorable appearance with her fiance marking their first public outing together since their engagement the previous month. The couple shared affectionate moments on the red carpet even sealing the evening with a kiss. Selena also proudly displayed her engagement ring. For the occasion she chose striking blue satin column dress by Prada channeling touch of Disney princess vibes.
Selena series Only Murders in the Building was also nominated for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy though it didn’t win in the category.
Meanwhile Wicked which was up for multiple awards earned the honor for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Ariana Grande fashion choice stood out as she donned pale yellow archival Givenchy gown with a beaded bodice letting her outfit speak for itself.
In other notable results Emilia Perez which led the nominations with 10 nods ended up winning four Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture Musical/Comedy Best Non English Language Film and Best Original Song. Zoe Saldana also took home the Best Supporting Actor award for her role in Emilia Perez.
