A resident of the national capital reported experiencing low water pressure or no water supply at their home since October 22.
New Delhi: Pollution levels in the Yamuna River have resulted in a water shortage in various parts of Delhi with no relief expected for residents during Diwali.
The Delhi Jal Board announced that water cuts are affecting East, Northeast and South Delhi until November 1 due to high ammonia levels in the river. With the Upper Ganga Canal closed for maintenance the Bhagirathi and Sonia Vihar water treatment plants are struggling to meet the demand leading to a 30 percent reduction in water production.
A resident of the national capital mentioned that they have experienced low water pressure or no water supply at their home since October 22.
Every day it just varies There always unpredictability about when the water will come and go and whether our tanks will be full. We have no idea when things will return to normal he stated.
The resident mentioned that authorities informed them about the water shortage on very short notice. On the morning of the 23rd we had no prior information about the shortage. They told us that starting at 10 AM we would not have water but we had no supply since 6 AM that day. We need to be informed at a neighbourhood level. If you just say there might be problems until November 1 we won’t know what our water situation will be like for the week. That is unacceptable. The Delhi Jal Board and utility authorities should communicate much earlier he added.
In light of the situation the Delhi Jal Board has advised residents to store sufficient water in advance according to their needs and to use it wisely. Additionally water tanks are available on demand through the board helpline or central control room.
