Two individuals operating the Momo stall have been detained and a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered.
Hyderabad: 33 years old woman has died and 20 others have fallen ill with food poisoning after consuming momos from a street vendor in various spots around Hyderabad Banjara Hills according to police.
Reshma Begum and her daughters Age-12 and 14 ate momos from a vendor in Khairatabad on Friday. Shortly after they began experiencing severe diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting. Reshma passed away on Sunday morning while her daughters remain under medical care. She was a single mother leaving her daughters behind.
Ram Babu Sub-Inspector of Banjara Hills Police Station informed PTI we received a complaint that Reshma Begum Age-33 died and 15 others suffered food poisoning after eating from a single street vendor across different locations. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
An investigation revealed that the vendor was operating without a food safety license and was preparing food in unsanitary conditions. The dough for the momos was stored unpacked in a broken refrigerator according to the findings. Samples from the vendor have been sent for laboratory analysis.
After a complaint from Reshma Begum family the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation food safety department along with the police tracked down the street vendor. Two individuals running the stall have been detained and a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been filed.
