Ekta Gupta body was discovered buried near a bungalow used by a senior government official.
Kanpur: The gym trainer accused of murdering a businessman wife approximately four months ago in Kanpur Uttar Pradesh was reportedly inspired by the Bollywood film Drishyam. The body of Ekta Gupta was discovered buried near a bungalow assigned to a senior government official reflecting the plot of the Ajay Devgn film.
Ekta went missing on June 24 and her husband Rahul Gupta claimed that gym trainer Vimal Soni had fled with his wife after administering intoxicants mixed with protein supplements. During interrogation the trainer allegedly confessed to the murder revealing that he had buried the body in an area with bungalows designated for government officials.
He revealed that he had watched Drishyam multiple times which inspired him to bury her body in an affluent area. In the 2015 film the main character conceals a murder victim body beneath a police station.
CCTV footage from the day of the incident shows Ekta Gupta entering the gym wearing a red t-shirt and black pants. According to the police the two were involved in an affair and she was distressed over his upcoming marriage.
On the day of her death Ekta visited the gym after a 20 days absence where the two had an argument in a car. During this confrontation Vimal Soni allegedly punched her and subsequently killed her. A hair clip and other personal belongings were found inside the vehicle.
Her body was discovered in a house approximately a kilometres away from the gym where Vimal Soni was employed. Sources indicated that part of the bungalow is occupied by the District Magistrate and his family which includes a camp office and a security post nearby.
